BOC destroys fake cigarettes, various vegetables

Subic Bay Freeport – In line with the Bureau of Customs’ commitment to border protection, the Port of Subic started the condemnation of seized illegal and counterfeit cigarettes and various vegetables at a rendering facility located at Porac, Pampanga on October 30, 2020.

The condemnation was spearheaded by the Port’s Deputy Collector for Assessment and Chief, Auction and Cargo Disposal Division (ACDD), Ms. Maita S. Acevedo, together with the Port’s Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), as well as Atty. Reynaldo N. Yacat, ACDMD-POS-AOCG together with the representatives from PMFTC, JTI, PDEA and Bureau of Plant Industry.

Loaded in a 6×40’ container vans bearing a total of 5,810 master cases of illegal and counterfeit cigarettes with various brands like Fortune, Jackpot, Mighty, Two Moon, D&B, Seven Stars, Union and Marvels cigarettes and 3×40’ container vans bearing various kinds of vegetables were also seized and condemned through crushing, shredding and dumping. The seized and condemned goods were estimated to cost for about Php 215 Million.

The Port of Subic District Collector, Maritess T. Martin stayed true to her word that an intensified effort to protect our border and stop smuggling are being practiced at the Port of Subic.

As the smugglers took advantage of the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Port of Subic shall remain dedicated in supporting Commissioner Guerrero’s program to intensify border protection and transparency to the public. (Dante M. Salvaña)
