Bomb joke causes flight delay in Bohol

BOHOL, Philippines – A bomb joke from a passenger aboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J617 disrupted operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport on March 22, 2025, prompting an immediate security response. The incident occurred upon the aircraft’s 11:20 AM landing, after a flight attendant overheard two passengers making the remark. The individuals were placed under police custody as authorities assessed the situation.

Following standard security protocols, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft. By 12:43 PM, authorities confirmed that there was no explosive threat, and flight operations resumed as normal. All passengers and crew members were declared safe following the security sweep.

CAAP reminded the public that bomb jokes are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which prohibits false bomb threats. Offenders may face up to five years in prison or a ₱40,000 fine. The agency urged passengers to exercise caution with their statements to ensure the safety and security of all travelers.
