MALOLOS CITY — Bulacan farmers explored the basics of beekeeping through a three-day webinar organized by Agricultural Training Institute-Central Luzon (ATI-CL).
Mr. Jonathan Andrew Tiglao, a bee expert and owner of Nature’s Joy Apiary Farm in Angeles City, served as the resource person.
He explained the role of bees in sustainable agriculture as well as common species of bees in the country to the 25 participants.
Tiglao also discussed the benefits and potential of beekeeping and also its management. In addition, the basic points to consider in caring bees as well as honey production were tackled.
The webinar also opened doors for those whose jobs were affected by the pandemic.
As part of the webinar, ATI-CL will provide three colonies of bees (Apis mellifera) to the Bulacan Natural Farmers Association as extension support to the group.
In Bulacan, natural and organic farming has become more popular and they need pollinators to increase the yield of their crops.
With this, bees play a significant role in the pollination of the different crops from fruit trees to vegetables, flowers, and herbs.
