Bulacan launches digital governance initiative

In a pivotal step towards modernizing public services, the Province of Bulacan launched the Electronic Local Government Unit (eLGU) System on October 15, 2024, at Catalino’s Hall, 8 Waves Hotel and Resort. The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), marks a significant effort to streamline local government processes and improve accessibility for citizens.

Led by DICT Secretary Ivan Uy and Undersecretary for eGovernment David Almirol, the event drew participation from top provincial leaders and national agency representatives. Among the notable attendees were Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Vice Governor Alex Castro, Congressman Ambrosio ‘Boy’ Cruz Jr., and Guiguinto Mayor Agatha Paula A. Cruz. Representatives from the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also expressed support.

The eLGU initiative is part of President Marcos’s Bagong Pilipinas Movement, which aims to align the country’s governance standards with global benchmarks. The program is designed to improve efficiency and responsiveness in local government, offering new digital platforms like the eGOV App to make public services more accessible.

By prioritizing digital transformation, Bulacan seeks to enhance government-citizen interactions and improve the quality of life for its residents. The initiative sets a high bar for other provinces looking to embrace technology for public service delivery, signaling a forward-thinking approach to governance in the digital age.
