The National Food Authority (NFA) in partnership with the Bulacan Rice Millers launched its “Tulong sa Bayan Caravan” program on Friday at the compound of NFA-Bulacan in Barangay Tikay, City of Malolos.
NFA-Bulacan provincial manager Elvira Cruz Obana said the program was part of the rice millers response to the call of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to rice traders from the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Isabela.
The president during their meeting at the Malacanang held recently requested the rice traders association to sell cheap commercial rice with competitive standard to as low as P39 per kilo or P1,950.00 per cavan.
Roderico Sulit, vice president of Golden City Rice Millers and representative of Bulacan Rice Millers Association said they will provide initial 10 trucks loaded of 5,000 commercial rice cavans.
Sulit said the supply of cheap commercial rice will continue until there was no NFA rice.
The NFA-Bulacan will pass the commercial rice for P39 per kilo to the retailers and consumers, Obana said.
Tulong sa Bayan Caravan program was formed by the Office of the President, Confederation of Grains Retailers Association (GRECON), Bulacan Rice Millers Association and NFA-Bulacan.
The program was to augment the unavailability of NFA rice in the market and the selling will start every 8am to 5pm.
