MALOLOS CITY – The Bulacan Provincial Police Office (BPPO) is strengthening its anti-crime operations by implementing a series of innovative projects aimed at enhancing surveillance, communication, and response capabilities.

Philippine National Police (PNP) BPPO Provincial Director PCOL. Satur Ediong said among these initiatives is Project SMART PATROL (Surveillance, Monitoring, Alertness, Response and Tracking of Patrol), which uses a Global Positioning System (GPS)-based vehicle tracking to improve public safety.

The project currently covers 103 mobile and motorcycle patrol units to ensure real-time monitoring and rapid deployment of police assets.

To enhance aerial surveillance, PNP-BPPO has begun procuring Cubic Mission and Performance Solutions (CMPS) drones under Project SKYWATCH (Advanced Aerial Surveillance and Response System).

An initial 20 drones have been acquired, with a target of 50 units to provide enhanced monitoring and rapid response capabilities.

To further improve operational efficiency, Optimized Networked Gear project has integrated the use of 100 Kirisun radios for seamless communication among police units.

Another major innovation is the interoperability between the PNP-BPPO Command Center and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) CCTV Systems, which enables real-time data sharing for enhanced security and disaster response.

PDRRMO Head Manuel Lukban said the satellite-powered operations of the Bulacan Rescue 566 Command Center became possible through the help of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its partner United States based firm Starlink.

The new system significantly boosts internet speed to 400 megabits per second (mbps), more than double the previous capacity, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity across 45 stations, each receiving 4 mbps.

Lukban added that the satellite-based system ensures all-weather connectivity, making CCTV monitoring and emergency communications resilient to heavy rains, thick clouds, strong typhoons, and extreme humidity.

For his part, Ediong cited the impact of integrating police operations with disaster management to ensure security and quicker response during crimes and calamities. (MJSC/SFV, PIA Region 3-Bulacan)
