Bulacan Vice Gov to get ‘Gawad America’ award in the US

GUIGUINTO, Bulacan – When it rains, it pours and Bulacan Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando is virtually getting soaked in it so to speak.

After winning the Best Supporting Actor Trophy from the recently concluded 31st Star Awards of the Philippippine Movie Press Club, Fernando is set to fly to the United States of America to get his second Most Outstanding Vice Governor of the Philippines award from Gawad America, a prestigious awards-giving body composed of Filipinos living in America.

“They came to Bulacan to see how we do our job. They have also seen the good effects of the projects of the Damayang Filipino Foundation. They have done some rigid screening,” Fernando said.

The Gawad America awards is being bestowed to outstanding Filipinos in the field of public service.

The vice governor also said that Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado was also adjudged as Most Outstanding Governor of the Philippines and will get the award from the Gawad America organizers.

“We are both overwhelmed because our work is being recognized abroad,” he said.

On his other feat, Fernando got the Best Supporting Award for portraying the villainous character of “Rigor” in the popular morning TV sitcom “Ikaw lang ang Iibigin” aired weekdays on ABS-CBN. —EMIL G. GAMOS
