Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reopened the Cabu Steel Bridge along Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Cabanatuan City.
Nueva Ecija 2nd District Maintenance Engineer Renato Liwag said only light vehicles such as single motorcycles, tricycles, four-wheeled cars, buses and light loaded six-wheeler trucks are permitted to cross the bridge.
“Reinforced concrete pipes were placed at the approach of the bridge to prevent the entry of heavy loaded trucks, trailer trucks, double I-beam trucks and other large vehicles,” he explained.
The Cabu Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic on May 7, 2021 to allow the repair of the damaged deck slab of the bridge.
Only minor bridge repairs may be conducted to preserve the structure and its historical value.
It is the shortest route going to Palayan City and other municipalities in the eastern part of Nueva Ecija. (CLJD-PIA 3)
