TARLAC CITY — The Provincial Government of Tarlac is set to launch bike lanes for different types of functions.
This is in compliance with Department of the Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular No. 2020-100 which instructs local government units to provide bike lanes.
In an interview, Governor Susan Yap said the Provincial Tourism Office partnered with Department of Public Works and Highways to create the Tarlac Bike Lanes Project which aims to provide a safe venue for bike commuters and enthusiasts as well as promote the tourist attractions in the province.
“Probably by the end of the year we will already be launching the bike lanes of Tarlac,” Yap shared.
The project is divided for different specific purposes such as lanes going to school, to work and for leisure.
The provincial government shall assure safety in the mountain trails for those who are into adventure biking.
“We collaborated with professionals for the safety aspect and we will eventually have classes to impart knowledge regarding road etiquette and safety in biking,” Yap furthered.
Different trails in the mountains of San Jose and Mayantoc are also being prepared for the growing off-road biking community.
The official likewise noted that this is in response to the tourism aspect of the province which have been affected by the pandemic.
“Since face-to-face mass gatherings are highly prohibited, we are promoting activities with less contact and with physical distancing,” she said.
Finally, Yap encouraged Tarlaqueños to promote the tourist attractions in the province.
“It’s time we promote Tarlac as a destination and not a mere stopover station,” she noted.
