Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II: Road to mayorship

Mayorable Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II has spent nearly a decade quietly working behind the scenes, steering impactful initiatives without seeking the limelight. At his “Pasasalamat Sa Inyo” birthday celebration in June, his achievements as Pampanga’s First District representative from 2016 to 2024 were brought to light—efforts in social programs, health, education, livelihood, infrastructure, and legislation.

As he transitions from congressman to mayoral candidate, Mayor Jon’s deep-rooted commitment to his community shines. Born and raised in Angeles City, Jon and his brother, mayor-turned-congressman Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., are swapping roles for the 2025 elections. This brotherly political shift signifies their dedication to serving Pampanga, deeply understanding the needs and aspirations of their constituents.

His innovative approach has seen significant accomplishments through partnerships with national agencies. Notably, his collaboration with TESDA trained 741 scholars in various fields, and through the DOLE’s TUPAD program, 18,335 beneficiaries received support, demonstrating his focus on inclusive growth and empowerment.

His proactive work extended to programs like DSWD’s Ayuda para sa Kapos Ang Kita Program, benefiting 2,891 marginalized individuals. In agriculture, he facilitated substantial food security measures, distributing seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery while improving irrigation networks and farm-to-market roads.

His commitment to education is evident in his work with CHED, benefiting 7,065 students through the Tulong Dunong Program and further support through the SMART program. Meanwhile, infrastructure projects flourished under his leadership, with 35 bridges built, 97,221 meters of flood control, and the construction of 174 multi-purpose buildings.

Healthcare remained a priority, with over 25,000 patients receiving medical assistance, 148,965 benefiting from free medicines, and support for hospital bills. His efforts have left a lasting mark, particularly in his response to the COVID-19 pandemic and his support for youth and sports programs.

Legislatively, Mayor Jon’s role in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Congresses resulted in 722 bills authored or co-authored, with 66 becoming Republic Acts. His quiet yet resolute leadership has translated into real progress for Pampanga’s First District.

As he steps into the mayoral race, he leads the Lazatin team with his brother, Cong. Pogi, aiming for a 13-0 sweep in the 2025 midterm polls. Their slogan, “Nobody’s Left Behind,” encapsulates their vision for inclusivity and progress across the district.

Backed by a powerhouse team, including Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and a slate of councilors, Jon’s platform focuses on education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Their hands-on, grassroots approach positions them as the frontrunners, aiming to carry their legacy of service into the future.
