Due to the extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine until May 15, workers from Central Luzon will bring their Labor Day protest this year online.
“Hindi tayo magpapapigil sa pagpapahayag, dahil sa Mayo Uno, ang social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram at iba pa) sa internet ang magsisilbing kalsada ng mga manggagawa at mamamayan,” said Workers Alliance in Region III (WAR-III) in a statement.
Workers will highlight issues concernig contractualization, minimum wage, and other workers’ rights in this year’s protest. They also seek to demand accountability from the Duterte regime on ‘his slow actions to combat COVID-19 pandemic.’
“Ngayon, mas higit na mas kailangan pagkakaisa upang ihayag ang ating mga usapin at panawagan tungkol sa ating kabuhayan, katiyakan ng ating kalusugan, ayuda mula sa pamahalaan at iba pang karaingan,” added WAR-III.
Selfies along with their demands and calls will be posted simultaneously by workers in the region on May 1. They will also use the hashtag: #KalusuganKabuhayanKarapatan in their online posts.
Workers from different provinces and regions will also launch online protests to commemorate Labor Day on May 1. –JP Cabral
