MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of National Bible Day, CIBAC Party-list Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva is advocating for the integration of the Ten Commandments into the country’s basic education curriculum.
Through House Bill 11339, Villanueva seeks to include the Ten Commandments in Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) and Values Education (VE) subjects. The bill also calls for the prominent display of the Decalogue in classrooms to remind students daily of values such as faith, respect for life, honoring parents, and integrity.
“The Ten Commandments is not just a religious doctrine but also a historical document that has shaped legal systems worldwide. This measure aims to uphold the Constitutional mandate of promoting the spiritual and moral well-being of the Filipino youth,” Villanueva said.
He clarified that the proposal is not about imposing religion but about providing moral and ethical guidance to future generations. Villanueva described the measure as a counter to “foreign woke ideologies” that challenge the country’s God-and-family-centered values.
Villanueva also filed House Resolution 2195, urging the Department of Education to begin teaching and displaying the Ten Commandments while the bill is pending.
“The Word of God is our hope for the country’s future,” he said. National Bible Day is celebrated every last Monday of January under Republic Act 11163.
