Clark airport gets two-star ratings for flight punctuality

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — The Clark International Airport (CRK) received an impressive two-star On-Time Performance (OTP) Rating from an air travel intelligence company based in United Kingdom, according to an executive of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC).

“Clark is the only airport in the country to be given this two-star rating by the Official Aviation Guide (OAG) and the first ever star rating we received,” CIAC President and CEO Jaime Alberto Melo said.

CRK’s two-star rating was based on its annual OTP of 71.3 percent in 2018 covered by OAG’s rating period.

“The unprecedented rating is a testament to Clark’s competency in providing exceptional air services,” Melo added.

The OTP Star Rating is a global accreditation program of OAG that recognizes excellent flight punctuality performance across all airports and airlines regardless of size, geographic location, or aviation peer group.

“This recognition is indeed a welcome development as Clark airport celebrates its 24th anniversary this month,” Melo said.

Meanwhile, one-star ratings were given to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), the Iloilo International Airport (ILO), and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

Mayur Patel, OAG regional sales director for Japan and Asia-Pacific (JAPAC) region commended the Clark airport management and said OAG will “look forward to their next set of results in 2019 showing the benefit of the hard work undertaken by the management team.”

Based in the United Kingdom, OAG is the top provider of air travel data and analytics which provides accurate, timely, and actionable digital flight information and applications to airlines, airports, government agencies, and other travel-related service companies across the globe.

On-time performance rating for airports is measured by the number of departures and arrivals that take place in less than 15 minutes after scheduled departure/arrival times, including cancellations.

Melo explained that to achieve an OTP star rating, airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations per month with OAG being able to process flight status information for no less than 80 percent of scheduled flights in a 12-month period.

OAG is best known for its airline schedules database which holds future and historical flight details for more than 900 airlines and over 4,000 airports.

The Clark airport averages around 11,500 passengers daily and registers a weekly average of 714 combined domestic and international flights.
