Cong Pogi lauds Kapampangan Math Olympiad

FIRST DISTRICT, PAMPANGA- Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. filed House Resolution No. 429 on November 5, 2025, congratulating Kean Matthieu L. Aguilar for winning gold medals in both the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PHIMO) 2025 Final Round held on September 20, 2025 and the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) 2025-2026 Heat Round on October 19, 2025.

Aguilar is a Grade 8 student from Brightwoods School in Angeles City and a resident of Dau, Mabalacat City.  He first competed via online in the PHIMO  2025 Heat Round on April 6, 2025 where he won Gold medal, to qualify for the PHIMO Final Round. There were more than 5, 500 students from different countries who participated during this elimination round.

Further, Aguilar also won Gold medal during the PHIMO 2025 Final Round held on September 20, 2025. There were a total of 3, 700 participants in the elimination round which included 1, 700 students who competed onsite at the Cebu Institute of Technology and 2,000 students who participated online.

On October 19, 2025, he again competed along with 7,100 students from the Philippines in the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad 2025 Heat Round and was among the participants who won gold medal.  He will be competing next year in the TIMO Final Round in Thailand.

“Binabati ko si Kean Matthieu L. Aguilar sa kanyang pagkapanalo ng gold medals sa PHIMO 2025 Final Round at TIMO 2025-2026 Heat Round. Tunay na maipagkakapuri siya ng mga Kapampangan at ng mga Pilipino dahil sa  kanyang angking talino’, Lazatin said.

“Nawa’y patuloy niyang iangat ang bandila ng Pilipinas sa larangan ng Matematika at maging mabuting huwaran siya ng mga kabataang Pilipino,”  he added.

It may be noted that Aguilar has been a strong contender in the PHIMO and TIMO since he was in Grade 4. He bagged silver medals during the TIMO Final Round 2021-2022, TIMO Final Rounds 2023-2024 and PHIMO Final Round in 2023 and 2024.

On the other hand, he has won gold medals during the TIMO Finals 2024-2025 and PHIMO 2025 Final Round.

Apart from being a Math Olympiad, Aguilar has been an Awardee of the Department of Science and Technology from 2022 to 2024.
