“Count our blessings, share kindness” – Devanadera

“Count our blessings and share kindness.” This heartfelt Christmas message from Clark Development Corporation (CDC) president, Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera, set the tone for the grand Christmas lighting ceremony held at the Clark Parade Grounds on November 27, 2024. The event, themed “Threads of Kindness,” officially marked the beginning of the holiday season in Clark, bringing together the community in a spirit of unity and generosity.

The evening’s celebration was further enriched by an inspiring message from Dr. Richard Daenos, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism Region III. Daenos, who has been a regular participant in the annual Christmas lighting events of hotels within Clark, shared his excitement about this year’s celebration. “It’s always a pleasure to be here with Atty. Devanadera and all the wonderful people in Clark. Every year, I look forward to this tradition, as it truly embodies the spirit of Christmas—hope, unity, and kindness,” he said.

Despite having to rush back to Manila after the event for an early trip the next day, Daenos expressed his commitment to being part of the holiday festivities in Clark, noting that the celebration is one of the highlights of his holiday season. “I came from Manila just for this,” he added, “and I wouldn’t miss it for anything. After the lighting ceremony, I’ll head back, but it’s always worth it to be here for such a meaningful occasion.”

The event also featured an elegant runway show curated by Casa Moda designer Mich Viray. Models included CDC directors, hotel executives, and children from Duyan ni Maria, all embodying the evening’s central themes through their graceful presence. Atty. Devanadera was present on the runway stage, surrounded by the crowd, adding her own warmth and spirit to the celebration. Her presence on the stage highlighted the sense of community and shared joy that defined the evening.

Atty. Devanadera shared a nostalgic reflection on her childhood Christmases in Sampaloc, Quezon, where she grew up. She fondly remembered how, during the holiday season, Ninongs and Ninangs were often scarce, jokingly saying they would hide from their godchildren to avoid giving out aguinaldos. She also recalled how, upon seeing the giant Christmas lantern during the ceremony, she was reminded of the ferris wheel, or chubibo, from her childhood. The shape and lights of the lantern brought back memories of the festive excitement she felt as a child, watching the chubibo spin with joy and wonder.

Her message aligned with the recent directive from Malacañang, issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, which encourages government offices to scale down holiday expenses in favor of meaningful acts of charity. This call for compassion is especially timely, as Central Luzon, including Aurora province, has been severely affected by recent typhoons. Atty. Devanadera emphasized the need for generosity, urging those present to extend a helping hand to those in need.

“Count our blessings and share kindness,” she reiterated, reminding everyone to focus on gratitude and compassion rather than what we lack. “Think of the children of Duyan ni Maria—those who have been abandoned, orphaned, or neglected. They remind us of our responsibility to extend love and kindness where it’s needed most.” Her words deeply resonated with the crowd, stirring a collective commitment to make the season one of selfless giving.

The highlight of the ceremony was the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and lantern, symbolizing hope, generosity, and unity. Atty. Devanadera led the ceremonial lighting alongside LIPAD president Noel Manankil, CIAC president Joseph Pascua Alcazar, and key investors. As the lights illuminated the night sky, the spirit of the holiday season was undeniably felt throughout the crowd.

As guests savored the evening’s festive atmosphere, they were treated to Kapampangan culinary delights from Lola Nor’s, offering a delicious taste of local tradition. Meanwhile, the AUF Concert Chorus filled the air with soul-stirring renditions of Christmas classics. The combined experience of food, music, and goodwill left attendees with a profound sense of joy, reminding everyone of the enduring power of kindness and the importance of supporting one another during this holiday season.
