The City of San Fernando (P) Inter-Barangay Volleyball Tournament 2017 was officially opened over the weekend.
This year’s tournament is participated by 21 barangays which include Barangay Bulaon, Northville Calulut, Del Rosario, Dolores, Juliana, Malino, Quebiawan, Saguin, San Agustin, San Felipe, San Isidro, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, San Pedro, Sindalan, Sta Lucia, Sta Teresita, Sto Nino, Telabastagan and Maimpis..
The opening ceremony was held at the Maimpis Barangay Covered Court, leading the ceremonial toss was Mayor Edwin D. Santiago together with Barangay Captains Romy Dizon (Maimpis) and Jun Ong (Juliana).
In his message, Mayor Santiago emphasized that sports is very important for Fernandinos particularly the advantages of it provides to the youth.
“We want Fernandinos to become disciplined and healthy. By engaging yourself into sports, you will learn the importance of discipline, determination, perseverance and hard work. Most importantly this is a venue to build camaraderie with each other”, he said.
The mayor also disclosed his plans of strengthening the sports sector in the city by building a Mini Sports Center in Barangay Del Rosario, and other amenities for the youth.
“We are planning to build a sports center for you to use during your sports activities. We will build swimming pool, gyms, basketball courts, among others” said Mayor Santiago.
Meanwhile, Dizon expressed his gratitude to the city government for launching programs for the youth.
“We are thankful to our city for activities like this. I am also encouraging all the barangays to participate in this activity. Hopefully next year, all the barangays will join this tournament” he said.
