Hundreds of cyclists joined today the City of San Fernando’s fifth “Padyak para sa Kalusugan at Kalikasan,” a cycling activity aimed at promoting good health and environment conservation.
The participants are from different bikers’ association in the city and the towns of Arayat, Candaba, Guagua, Minalin, Sto. Tomas and Mabalacat City.
This year, the caravan covered a 33 kilometer route from Waltermart to the northern barangays that ended at the Heroes Hall.
In his speech, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago said the annual gathering of cycling enthusiasts is beneficial not only to the participants but also to the entire community.
“Ang regular na pagbibisiketa ay isang magandang paraan ng pag-eehersisyo at makatutulong ito upang mabawasan ang bigat ng trapiko at ang polusyon sa ating kapaligiran,” he said.
Santiago also shared the city’s initiative to strictly observe bicycle road rules and safety through a proposed ‘Bicycle Promotion’ ordinance.
“This covers the creation of more bike lanes and it requires business establishments to provide bike racks,” the city mayor added.
