Cubby Lounge: The First Co-Working Space in Angeles City

Creative juices run high in Angeles City’s newest workspace, Cubby Lounge. Located along Pandan Road, the establishment caters to students and professionals who are looking for a quiet place to review, brainstorm, or work.

Derived from the concept of co-working spaces, Cubby Lounge is developed to be student-friendly with peaceful and conducive environment.

“We have the coffee, the snacks, the WiFi, [and] the outlets,” 21-year-old entrepreneur Reuven Azriel Alzaga said in an interview.

He reveals that he co-owns the business as a feasibility project for his college course at the Mapua Institute of Technology-Makati.

Currently, the Facebook page of Cubby Lounge has gained over 2,000 likes, and a rating of 4.9 out of 5 based on 11 customer reviews. The page also shares class suspension announcements and posts upcoming events in their establishment.

Alzaga points out the importance of social media, and word of mouth on promoting their business.

“Yung sa social media, we use it kase… our generation—Millennials, and Generation Z—are more on social media. Mas mabilis mong ma-grasp ang generation, our target market. Kase babad na dyan.” [“On social media, we use it because of our generation—Millennials, and Generation Z—are more on social media. It’s quicker to grasp on our target market, because they excessively use it.”]

Alzaga explains that as much as possible, they try to post often on their Facebook page for their brand to retain among customers.

On the one hand, Alzaga didn’t shy away from admitting their struggle as a new business. For instance, their recent event for a Microsoft Excel training made them realize the need to expand their existing space. However, Alzaga noted it as “a problem, but a good problem,” for them to improve on. Soon, they plan to put up a television set, and a projector for future trainings.

Since its soft opening last April, Cubby Lounge has listened to their customers’ suggestions regarding their services.

“Before, we don’t have group discounts but now we have na. Before wala ring memberships, now we have. Now, we’re trying to add another choice for drinks. Kase not everyone likes coffee,” Alzaga said.

On the future of the Cubby Lounge, Alzaga revealed their plans on expanding to accommodate more people, and provide a more “comfortable and flexible space,” like a gaming area, and a sleeping area.

“Hopefully with our targets, we achieve them,” Alzaga said.

With its minimalistic interior and laid-back ambience, Cubby Lounge is increasingly gaining popularity not only among students, but also to professionals who are out to, as their tagline goes, “study, work and create.”
