DAR mulls solar-powered housing projects for farmers

ORANI, Bataan — Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) is now mulling to distribute solar-powered housing projects for their beneficiaries.

During the Agrarian Reform and Convergence Summit on Friday, Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones said the project would highly improve the living conditions of farmworkers.

“Under support services, we want to boost the productivity of our farmers by providing them quality houses,” he stressed.

Castriciones said that they have already constructed one model unit in Quezon City and two in Nueva Viscaya waiting to be awarded to their agrarian-reform beneficiaries.

“After its full implementation, we will construct more housing projects in Nueva Ecija, Leyte, Samar, Cebu City, Marawi City, and in other provinces and cities across the country,” he said.

Each unit covers 37 square meters with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living room with granite tile flooring.

“The housing units will be solar-powered which is a better source of electricity,” he furthered.

The project will be in partnership with local government units who will donate the land while DAR will provide the construction and infrastructure.

Other support services of DAR include distribution of farm equipment, loan programs, construction of farm to market roads, and other argi-based projects.
