Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 2226 signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos in 1982, December 11 is declared holiday in the whole province of Pampanga including Angeles City to celebrate this year’s 446th foundation day known as the Aldo ning Kapampangan (Pampanga Day).
Among the festivities of the week-long celebration is the Culinaria Pampanga’s showcase of abundant and sumptuous ‘lutong barrio’ of the Kapampangans on December 7 at the Fontana Convention, Clark. Aside from the feast of Pampanga’s best among the best cuisines and delicacies, cultural presentations are expected wow guests including President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
On December 10 is the search for the next beacon of Kapampangan beauty, Mutya ning Kapampangan coronation night at Laus Event Centre, and the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards at Kingsborough Convention, City of San Fernando on December 11.
Historical records show that after the Spanish conquest of Pampanga on May 24, 1571 and its pacification or reduccion in the last months of the same year, the Spaniards inaugurated the Province of Pampanga as the first province of Luzon on or about December 11, 1571.
Ancient Pampanga’s territorial area used to include portions of the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Zambales, one of the richest provinces in the Philippines.
