BALANGA CITY — Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) commended Bataeños for their contributions in the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
During the 1st anniversary celebration of the Battle for Manila Bay held Sunday at Balanga Wetland and Nature Park, DENR Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Arthur Salazarnarrated the environmental challenges and improvements he personally witnessed in the province.
“I have seen the transformation here in the wetland because 10 years ago, we have to admit, it’s really filthy. But after the launching of the Battle for Manila Bay, you have made a huge improvement within a short period of time,” he stressed.
The DENR official lauded the residents for their commitment and dedication in the transformation of the environment, which can contribute to the restoration Manila Bay back to its former glory.
He advised the public to conduct coastal clean-up activities on a regular basis for the benefit of the next generation.
“Let us not get tired of doing these small things since we can revolutionize the minds of other people on their habit and mindset that they can’t make a change,” he furthered.
For her part, Provincial Tourism Office Head Alice Pizarro said they have their own efforts in the government in keeping rivers and other waterways clean.
“In our office, we are mandated to protect tourism developments along the Manila Bay area. We have our own roles so we should all unite to contribute in this battle,” she added.
The Battle for Manila Bay is a simultaneous clean-up activity that engages participants to show their strong commitment to fight environmental abuses and save the historic Manila Bay.
