DENR, private firms in Bulacan partner for forest protection

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) partnered with two private firms in Bulacan to boost forest protection.

Under the agreement, Eagle Cement Corporation and Solid North Mineral Corporation will adopt about 34 hectares of forestland areas in barangay Talbak in Doña Remedios Trinidad, and provide funds for the development of the area.

DENR Regional Executive Director Paquito Moreno Jr. disclosed that the agreement covers establishment of a 2.15-hectare seedling nursery, non-commercial nursery research center, and forest ranger outpost.

For its part, the agency will provide the necessary technical and scientific assistance in the establishment and maintenance of the seedling nursery, and the continuous seedling production.

“The adoption of this forestland area adds a significant boost in our long-term forestland management, especially so that putting up a forest ranger station will be supplemental in our efforts to safeguard this area from any illegal forest activities,” Moreno stressed.

Since 2011, DENR Region 3 has already established more than 122,000 hectares of plantations within watersheds and forestlands in the region. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
