CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Central Luzon led the belated celebration of the 2025 Economic and Financial Literacy Week, highlighting the vital role of financial knowledge and digital readiness in supporting national development goals.
The observance is held every second week of November by virtue of Republic Act 10922, also known as the Economic and Financial Literacy Act, but was rescheduled due to weather disturbances.
In her welcome message, DEPDev Regional Director Nerrisa Esguerra stressed the importance of economic and financial literacy for a country to reach its full growth potential.
“We need people who can make sound financial decisions, mobilize savings, and contribute ideas that improve our economic and financial policies. That is why the DEPDEV is tasked to lead this annual celebration together with our partner stakeholders from the government and private sector,” she said.
Esguerra also cited that this year’s theme, “Paano Sumakses? Step-by-the-Step na Kaalaman sa Ekonomiya at Pinansya para sa Wais na Desisyon Tungo sa AmBisyon”, is a reminder that success does not happen overnight, emphasizing the link between everyday decisions and long-term aspirations.
“Every choice we make, whether it is saving portion of our allowance, investing in education, or supporting local businesses, it affects not only our personal future but also the future of our nation. Financial literacy is not just about numbers, it is about empowerment. It is about giving each Filipino the confidence to plan and to dream, and to achieve,” the director noted.
For her part, DEPDev 3 Chief Economic Development Specialist Divine Hope Vallejo said that understanding the development plan is essential, particularly as Central Luzon continues its recovery.
“The plan directly affects our pocket. The priorities of the plan which are to generate quality jobs, stabilize inflation, advance financial inclusion all directly impact our pockets,” she noted.
With this, Vallejo encouraged the public to understand government blueprints to help them make better and smarter career, investment, and business choices aligned with Ambisyon Natin 2040 of having a stable, comfortable, and secure life for all Filipinos.
The celebration also highlighted the growing importance of digitalization in shaping economic participation as rapid technological advancements create new opportunities for both individuals and enterprises.
“Tools like online banking and digital government services make transactions easier and more inclusive. Digitalization allows more people to access essential services from afar. For businesses, it widens their market. Digital readiness is crucial in accelerating post-pandemic recovery,” she explained. (CLJD/MJSC, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
