The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 3 showcased its regional initiatives and achievements during PIA-GL Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas. The event, held at the DILG Regional Office III in Maimpis, City of San Fernando, brought together key officials to address critical issues and initiatives in Central Luzon.
DILG Regional Director Atty. Anthony Nuyda led the panel, providing insights into ongoing programs and local governance challenges. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Regional Director FCSUPT Renato Capuz discussed advancements in fire safety and disaster response, while Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Director JCSUPT Paulino Moreno Jr. shared updates on jail management and rehabilitation programs. Police Regional Office III Deputy Regional Director for Administration PBGEN Benjamin Sembrano highlighted efforts to enhance public safety and law enforcement.
Hosted by PIA Information Officer Jag Lyra on behalf of Regional Director William Beltran, who had an urgent matter to attend to, the event aimed to foster dialogue and transparency between the DILG and the public, ensuring alignment with community needs and concerns in Central Luzon.
Participants, with DILG Assistant Regional Director Jay Timbreza among them, engaged in a vigorous and comprehensive discussion on disaster preparedness, public safety, and local government accountability. Officials emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the public to achieve sustainable development and effective governance.
Nuyda outlined a series of notable initiatives and significant achievements including the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), with 84 LGUs receiving recognition in 2023 and a target of over 100 LGUs for 2024. He highlighted Region 3’s aim to be the nation’s economic hub with Clark and Subic leading local economic development. Additionally, 51 LGUs launched the Paleng-QR Ph program, and the BIDA (Buhay Ingatan Droga’y Ayawan) Program reached 2,250 students through youth camps, symposia, and an anti-illegal drugs summit. Three provinces and 84.3 percent of barangays were declared drug-cleared.
Further achievements included the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards, urban community peace and development programs, support for barangay development, establishment of water stations and health centers, initiatives for violence against women and children (VAWC) and child-friendly local governance, and local government support funds. Food security was addressed through the Hapag sa Barangay project, establishing 2,263 sites, and the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas program, which collected nine tons of garbage. The road clearing program was also emphasized.
Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas provided a platform for the DILG to communicate its strategies and respond to public concerns, reinforcing its commitment to building a more resilient and well-governed Region 3.
