As Angeles City Councilor Doc Alfie Bonifacio embarks on an unprecedented journey as a board member in Pampanga’s dynamic 3rd district, his unwavering dedication to public service remains steadfast. With a legacy defined by compassion and community engagement, Bonifacio joins forces with Governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda, forging ahead with a shared vision for progress and prosperity.
The district consists of the provincial capital city of San Fernando and adjacent towns of Arayat, Bacolor, Mexico, and Sta. Ana with roughly 300,000 voting population composing 143 barangays.
Doc Alfie’s Post-Resignation
After tendering his resignation last April 11 as city councilor, Doc Alfie made a voter registration transfer to Barangay Calulut, CSFP with the Pineda family at Comelec Pampanga as he approaches the end of his tenure as city councilor. This move not only marks a personal milestone for Bonifacio but also signals a broader shift in political alliances and ambitions within the province.
Born and raised in the bustling city of San Fernando, his roots run deep in the heart of Pampanga, where his mother, of the Torres clan, was from San Fernando (Bulaklak Village, Bgy. Sto Niño, and Bgy. Magliman), while his father’s mother’s side was from Barangays Arenas and San Antonio, Arayat of the Bautista clan. They were forced to evacuate to Angeles City amid the major eruption of Pinatubo in 1991. His decision to transition from city councilor to board member signifies not just a change in title but a commitment to broader community impact, though slightly different in culture and demographics.
Baby Steps to Public Service
Bonifacio’s dedication to public service stretches back to 2001 when he initiated dental missions with his alma mater, the University of the East, and as member of the 98-year old Alpha Phi Omega (APO) fraternity (be a leader, friend and be of service). This initiative stands as a testament to his early recognition of the importance of oral healthcare accessibility. Over the years, he seamlessly merged his altruistic endeavors with political engagement, supporting fellow politicians during campaigns alongside his wife, Doc Mich Bonifacio.
Big Man’s Big Leap
His recent unprecedented political leap from highly urbanized Angeles City to the broader landscape of Pampanga showcases his vision for comprehensive change. By transferring his voter registration and resigning from his city council position, Bonifacio exemplifies a willingness to embrace new challenges, innovations and contribute for the betterment of the entire province.
Bonifacio’s legislative agenda reflects his multifaceted approach to governance. Drawing from his experience as a city councilor, he aims to implement policies that enhance the economic prosperity of Pampanga, its towns, and barangays. From advocating for regulatory fee adjustments to promoting ease of doing business, his focus remains steadfast on empowering local communities.
However, at the core of Bonifacio’s agenda lies his unwavering commitment to health and wellness. His longstanding involvement in dental missions underscores his belief that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. As a board member, he plans to expand existing health programs and continue his tradition of community-oriented healthcare initiatives.
Caballero Always A Caballero
During the tumultuous Covid-19 pandemic era, the 66-year old Chevalier School faced an existential threat. The specter of closure loomed large, threatening to disrupt the basic right of education of the students. Yet, in the face of adversity, Doc Alfie emerged as a beacon of hope.
Hence, he was honored as an Outstanding Alumnus at the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2022 for his pivotal role in preventing the closure of Chevalier School during the Covid-19 pandemic. In doing so, it not only safeguarded the institution but also prevented the displacement of countless individuals, including those in small-scale industries and the transportation sector.
Reflecting on his alma mater’s influence, Doc Alfie remarked, “Caballero always a Caballero. Men with the heart for others. Part of what I have become is because of Chevalier School.”
Compassionate Public Servant
Above all, compassion serves as Bonifacio’s guiding principle in public service. This is his DNA. His genuine concern for the well-being of others permeates every aspect of his work, from legislative endeavors to grassroots initiatives.
As he embarks on this new chapter, one thing remains certain: Doc Alfie Bonifacio’s legacy of compassionate leadership with strong political will is poised to continue shaping the future of Pampanga for years to come.
