CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Health-Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH-CLCHD) and Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH) launched the Hansen’s clinic, a specialized center dedicated to provide dermatological and leprosy-related services in the region.

DOH-CLCHD Local Health Support Division Chief Maria Eloisa Vidar said the initiative is a crucial step not only in providing quality healthcare services, but also in eradicating the stigma associated with leprosy.

“This serves as a platform to educate the community, correct misconceptions, and promote understanding and compassion for those affected,” she pressed.

Vidar also shared about the increasing cases in some provinces of Central Luzon, particularly among children.

“The presence of leprosy in the pediatric population may indicate ongoing or active transmission in our communities. Thus, early intervention is important to prevent the further spread of the disease,” she emphasized.

The opening of the Hansen’s clinic would improve the referral system between hospitals and local health units, ensuring that patients undergo regular check-ups, receive continuous treatment, and have access to a nearby healthcare facility.

With this, she said DOH-CLCHD remains committed to assist JBLMGH in ensuring continuous improvement in leprosy service delivery.

Meanwhile, JBLMGH Chief of Medical and Professional Staff Alfonso Danac stressed the critical role of specialized healthcare facilities in addressing Hansen’s Disease and affirmed the hospital’s commitment to provide treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing support for individuals affected by leprosy.

In addition, JBLMGH Public Health Unit Head Marigold Sibal reaffirmed the healthcare sector’s collective responsibility to ensure that no patient is left behind, as she called for continued efforts in research, patient education, and community outreach to further reduce the burden of leprosy in the region.

Hansen’s Clinic is located on the 4th floor of the Out Patient Department-Public Health Unit Building of JBLMGH. It is open every last Thursday of the month from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. (CLJD/MJSC, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
