The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conducted a workshop to boost the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province of Aurora.

About 36 representatives from local government units, national government agencies, and MSMEs attended the two-day activity.

DOST Provincial Director Maricel Sicat explained that the workshop is the next phase of the agency’s Project FIRST UP which aims to establish a think tank to analyze the prevailing situation and to develop programs, projects and ordinances for MSMEs to comply with the basic requirements.

“Through strategic collaboration and the adoption of cutting-edge technology, we aim to enhance the resilience and innovative capacity of our MSMES, enabling them to compete on a global scale and sustain long-term growth,” Sicat pressed.

The activity likewise included presentations of MSME-related programs, projects, and activities.

The Development Bank of the Philippines and Land Bank of the Philippines discussed their respective loan capital initiatives while the Bureau of Internal Revenue highlighted its procedure and assistance on registration and compliance with tax legislation.

DOST, on the other hand, presented the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, which directly addresses the needs of local businesses in terms of access to appropriate technology.

Following this event, the strategic plans and activities of Aurora’s eight municipal LGUs will be implemented in their respective areas to encourage MSME compliance with business regulations.

“Our mission here is not just to develop a plan, but to create a roadmap that will empower our MSMEs to thrive in the face of adversity,” Sicat furthered.

Aside from Project FIRST UP, DOST also promotes industrial upgrading through several projects and programs.

These include scholarships, grants for initiatives, and technological advances. (CLJD/MAT, PIA. Region 3-Aurora)
