The Department of Tourism (DOT) participated in the Samsung Galaxy Watch Manila Marathon 2024, joining around 7,500 local and international runners on October 6 in Manila and Pasay City. The marathon route took rain-soaked participants through iconic sites such as Binondo’s Chinatown, Jones Bridge, Luneta’s zero-kilometer marker, and the historic Intramuros, culminating at the bustling SM Mall of Asia Complex. Runners in the 42KM, 21KM, 10KM, and 5KM categories experienced both the challenge of the race and the city’s rich history.
The event also celebrated Manila’s recognition as the World’s Leading City Destination and Intramuros’ title as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the 2024 World Travel Awards. RunRio Inc. founder Rio dela Cruz expressed gratitude for the turnout, emphasizing the marathon’s positive economic impact on local businesses, with accommodations fully booked and restaurants bustling.
The partnership between RunRio Inc. and the DOT underscores a commitment to enhancing sports tourism in the Philippines. DOT employees, led by the Office of Film and Sports Tourism, participated in the marathon, demonstrating the department’s dedication to diversifying its tourism offerings. Upcoming events include a Women’s Run, Cebu Half Marathon, and the Trilogy Run Asia across various tourist destinations, culminating back at the MOA.
