DOTr vows full support for PMMA cadets

ZAMBALES, Philippines – Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon pledged the Department of Transportation’s all-out support for Filipino seafarers, vowing to boost training and facilities at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA).

Speaking at PMMA’s 205th anniversary in San Narciso, Zambales, Dizon emphasized the need to uplift the academy’s cadets, who are being prepared to become key players in the global maritime industry. He said the DOTr will seek partnerships, including with the French government, for training vessels and equipment needed for cadet certification.

Dizon also committed to establishing the PMMA-Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) training center within the campus. The planned facility will feature multi-purpose rooms and laboratories to support STCW and shipboard training. He called out the historical lack of support for the academy, assuring that under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., necessary resources will be provided to strengthen the institution and the future of Filipino seafarers.
