TARLAC CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new 432-square meter multipurpose building in Concepcion, Tarlac.
The agency utilized P11.87 million from the 2024 national budget to build the structure, which will now serve as Barangay Sta. Cruz’s health center.
DPWH Tarlac 2nd District Engineer Edward Ricardo Ramos said the new single-storey health facility brings medical services closer to the community and provides a well-equipped space for primary care, including maternal health, family planning, check-ups, and diagnostics.
“This new facility now supports the delivery of better healthcare access for Sta. Cruz residents and nine other neighboring barangays, offering immediate and primary care solutions for a wide range of medical needs closer to the community,” Ramos highlighted.
Rural Health Unit (RHU) Pharmacist Lee Angelo Pelayo expressed gratitude for the project’s completion and stressed its role in improving healthcare delivery.
“Napakalaking tulong po nitong project na binigay sa amin. Unang una po sa space, kasi ‘yung mga pasyente po natin, hindi po sila dapat nagsisiksikan sa isang lugar tulad ng nangyayari doon sa lumang RHU, para hindi sila magkahawahan (This project has been a huge help to us. First and foremost, in terms of space, because our patients should not be crowded in one area like what happens in the old RHU, to avoid them spreading illnesses),” Pelayo said.
Meanwhile, RHU Physician Dolores Cunanan shared her excitement about the new facility, stating that its larger space and upgraded amenities will enable them to serve more constituents from Barangay Sta. Cruz and nearby areas once it becomes fully operational.
The facility includes areas that can be repurposed for an obstetric ward, medical staff use, family planning, and diagnostic services, ensuring accessible and high-quality care for residents. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
