DPWH completes slope protection project in Guagua

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a slope protection project along Sapang Maragul Diversion Channel (SMDC) in San Juan Nepomuceno, Guagua.

This P77.3 million infrastructure was implemented by Pampanga 2nd District Engineering Office.

“The people of Guagua have benefited greatly from SMDC because it has diverted floodwaters coming from Sta. Rita and Porac directly to the Pampanga River and this is the reason why the incidence of flooding in the town has been reduced,” District Engineer Gregorio Audea, Jr. said.

With the completion of the 828.8 linear meter long slope protection structures on both sides of the creek, DPWH is confident that the adjacent low-lying areas will be protected from the detrimental effects of flooding.

Meanwhile, Audea announced that their office will implement another riverbank stabilization project along Sapang Maragul this year.

“The national government has allotted P75 million for the construction of permanent flood defenses along the creek funded under the DPWH Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps Program,” he disclosed.

“We would like to reaffirm our commitment to help reduce flood risks in this part of Pampanga through the continued implementation of projects like this,” the official emphasized. (CLJD-PIA 3)
