BALANGA CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has paved a 1,280-meter section of a farm-to-market (FMR) road in Mariveles, Bataan.

Located in Barangay Alion, the P29.85-million project includes reflectorized concrete pavement markings to improve visibility and ensure safer travel for both residents and motorists.

DPWH Bataan 3rd District Engineer Maribel Navarro reported that the agency used Portland Cement Concrete Pavement to construct the project in two sections.

This durable and reliable route benefits local residents, particularly farmers, by making it easier to transport agricultural products to the market.

“The 980-meter stretch and 6.1-meter-wide Section 1 includes a rubble concrete canal and wheel guard on the left side, as well as rubble concrete slope protection on the right. Also, Section 2 spans 300 meters and has a width of 5 meters,” Navarro explained.

Assistant District Engineer Henry John Morada highlighted the structure’s role in boosting the agricultural economy while also providing an accessible road network that promotes community engagement and social inclusion in Barangay Alion and neighboring areas.

“By providing FMRs, communities gain improved access to markets, boosting income opportunities and fostering engagement. Additionally, they promote social inclusion by connecting marginalized groups to essential services like education and healthcare,” Morada said.

DPWH implemented the project through a convergence program with the Department of Agriculture. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
