The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 558.09-lineal-meter flood control project along the Mabiga River in Hermosa, Bataan.

The infrastructure, located in Barangay Mabiga, will serve as a key route for the region, ensuring stable access and safeguarding ongoing construction during heavy rains and typhoons.

DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr. said the initiative protects farmlands and homes in the village from flooding, particularly during the rainy season and typhoons.

“The Mabiga River, a tributary of the Colo River, often causes flooding in the area. This structure promises to provide enhanced safety and stability for the entire community, especially for local farmers who rely on agriculture,” he said.

This flood control effort is also part of a series of initiatives along the river. It plays a critical role in protecting the new access road under construction, ensuring its long-term viability and uninterrupted access during monsoon rains and typhoons.

Standing six meters above the riverbed and built on a steel sheet pile foundation, the structure is designed to provide long-term durability and effective flood damage prevention.

The P72.38-million project was funded through the 2024 General Appropriations Act. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
