PAMPANGA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office refuted claims that most of the trash clogging canals in the province comes from Angeles City.

DPWH District Engineer Arnold Ocampo clarified that only the Sapang Balen River Channel directly connects Angeles City to the waterways of the City of San Fernando. This statement counters allegations from some local officials who claimed that large volumes of garbage found downstream, particularly in San Fernando and Bacolor, originated from upland areas like Angeles.

Ocampo emphasized the need for accurate information and inter-LGU coordination in addressing the waste and flooding problem, especially amid the rainy season.

The DPWH also expressed support for Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda’s proposal to install a concrete trash trap along the Angeles-San Fernando boundary, a move seen as a preventive measure to manage waste flow and protect low-lying communities.
