DPWH strengthens Bataan’s BMR with slope protection

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 2,339.73-square-meter concrete slope protection along the Bagac-Mariveles Road (BMR) in Bataan, reinforcing a key tertiary route that streamlines travel between Bagac and Mariveles.

Funded under the 2023 national budget with an allocation of ₱48.25 million, the project stabilizes a zigzag section of the 44-kilometer BMR in Barangay Malaya, Mariveles, mitigating risks associated with landslides, soil erosion, and slope collapse.

“The structure features a 459-linear-meter drainage canal that efficiently channels rainwater, ensuring soil stability and preventing slope displacement,” said Bataan 3rd District Engineer Maribel Navarro.

Beyond enhancing road safety, the initiative strengthens connectivity to remote communities, bolstering local economies by maintaining an uninterrupted flow of goods and services.
