DPWH Zambales 2nd DEO celebrates National Women’s Month

Castillejos, Zambales – A powerful statement in shades of purple, symbolizing solidarity for women empowerment and gender equality, set the stage as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Zambales 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) kicked off its month-long celebration of National Women’s Month (NWM).

The event began with a parade, featuring officials and employees wearing purple shirts and proudly showcasing this year’s theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” which highlights the vital role of women in various sectors, including infrastructure and public service.

In his speech, District Engineer Rey Lerio reaffirmed DPWH’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive workplace where women are given equal opportunities to excel, emphasizing the importance of respect, equality, and empowerment for all.

“At DPWH, we do more than build roads and bridges—we build respect, equality, and empowerment. This National Women’s Month, we honor the women shaping our country and ensure they receive the opportunities and recognition they deserve. When women rise, we all rise,” Lerio remarked.

OIC–Assistant District Engineer Jonathan Labio echoed this sentiment, stressing the need to foster environments where women are not just included but also supported.

“Women thrive when given a safe and empowering space to grow. When we uplift, support, and champion their success, we drive progress for all,” Labio stated.

Festivities also featured a volleyball tournament, where four teams of female personnel will compete throughout the month, along with a moment of self-care through a pampering session, providing an opportunity to relax, bond with colleagues, and recognize their significant contributions to both the office and the community.

Beyond the purple shirts, the DEO has prepared a variety of activities for NWM celebration, all aimed at promoting equality and strengthening its resolve to support women’s growth and fostering their professional development.
