More and more drug users and peddlers are turning themselves in to authorities after the Philippine National Police intensified its drive against illegal drugs.
More than 600 drug users and peddlers have already surrendered to the police over the weekend in Angeles City, and the towns of Arayat and Sta. Rita.
The trend was being played out across the country as drug users and peddlers surrender to barangay and PNP authorities fearing execution.
Chief Supt. Aaron N. Aquino, director of the Philippine National Police Central Luzon Command, said he expects more drug users and peddlers to surrender. Aquino has already ordered the police units in Central Luzon to intensify the drive against illegal drugs.
Aquino said those who surrendered will be treated to make them productive members of the society.
In Arayat town, more than 400 individuals who are into illegal drugs have surrendered to Arayat Mayor Bon Alejandrino. They were accompanied by their parents and relatives.
It is by far, the biggest number of drug users and peddlers who surrendered to authorities in the province.
In Angeles City, more than 100 individuals were also surrendered by their parents to Balibago village chief Tony Mamac.
In Sta. Rita town, PSI Francisco Sawadan Jr, OIC of Sta. Rita PNP, also announced the surrender of drug personalities in the town.
