TARLAC CITY — Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tarlac trained steel traders regarding Philippine National Standards on Black Iron and Galvanized Iron (BIGI) Steel Pipes.
This aims to refresh and update the existing knowledge of retailers and distributors of steel traders on the products to assure quality.
DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo highlighted that the main thrust for holding seminars such as this is to ensure both consumer and supplier protection.
“We encourage construction material retailers to comply with the corresponding regulations to guarantee product quality and safety,” she said.
Resource Speakers from the Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) namely John Erick Ramirez and Andrea Mikhaela Lazarte talked about the overview and function of BPS, and the implementing guidelines and applicable Department Administrative Orders on BIGI steel pipes and tubes.
Philippine Association of Black Iron and Galvanized Iron Steel Pipes and Tubes Manufacturers Inc. Senior Technical Officer Pat Santos, on the other hand, explained the manufacturing process and discussed the marking requirements of the products.
A total of 48 owners and representatives of hardware and construction supply stores participated in the seminar. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
