CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Eco Protect Management Corp. (EMPC) officially rolled out its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the “Lunes Malinis” or “MaLu” Project, at San Fernando Elementary School on Friday. The program aims to instill environmental awareness among students by collecting and repurposing single-use plastic sachets.

EMPC CEO Alaine Tan underscored the project’s sustainability focus, explaining that collected plastics will be upcycled into garbage bins and armchairs for public schools. “Through continuous research and innovation, we’ve developed a process that gives value to these waste materials. With the support of our partners, including mayoral aspirant Mylyn Pineda Cayabyab, we hope to expand this initiative across Pampanga and Region 3,” Tan said.

For every 18 kilos of single-use plastics gathered, EMPC will donate a trash bin or armchair to the participating school. During the pilot launch, two garbage bins were donated to San Fernando Elementary School, where around 1,125 students from Grades 4 to 6 participated in the collection drive under the “3Cs” concept—Collect, Clean, and Contribute.

Principal Marilen Calma emphasized the project’s educational impact, stating that students will learn the importance of cleanliness and proper waste segregation. Cayabyab also highlighted the role of plastic waste in flooding, urging students to involve their families in upcycling efforts to address clogged drainage canals.
Following its successful launch, EMPC plans to replicate the MaLu Project in other schools across Pampanga, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management.
