Five new Black Hawks expand Philippine Air Force fleet

CLARK AIR BASE, Philippines — The Philippine Air Force on Wednesday formally welcomed five newly acquired S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, the latest addition to its growing fleet under the Armed Forces of the Philippines modernization program.

During an acceptance, turnover, and blessing ceremony at the Haribon Hangar in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, Lieutenant General Arthur M. Cordura, the PAF commanding general, underscored the aircraft’s role in enhancing air mobility and operational readiness.

The helicopters, delivered to the country on July 15, are part of a 32-unit procurement from Poland’s PZL Mielec through a direct contract. The first five units arrived in June 2024, with another five delivered in December that year.

Each helicopter underwent a rigorous Technical Inspection and Acceptance process by the Department of National Defense, AFP, and PAF to meet operational standards. They will be assigned to the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing under the Air Mobility Command.

Renowned for their speed, reliability, and mission flexibility, the Black Hawks are expected to bolster the PAF’s capacity for humanitarian and disaster response, troop and cargo transport, and other operations vital to national security.
