Flights: It’s more than the movies, it’s the significance.

Going on an almost four-hour flight could be both fun and a bore.

I had the former when I recently took an almost filled-up A320 Clark-Singapore flight of Cebu Pacific.

For starters, there were no long lines or queuing up. Whether at entry to Clark International Airport (soon to be renamed again to Diosdado Macapagal International Airport) terminal, the security gates, immigration, airline check-in counter and even plane boarding. Clark is really hassle-free when it comes to air travel. I should know that as I take even my US flights via this unheralded gateway.

Mindanao for a cover is such a sight to behold much more for its accompanying articles to be read that take up worthy time instead of watching movies in the 4-hour flight to Singapore from Clark.

Aside from being smooth, the Cebu Pacific flight that left Clark at noon was rather amusing. Nahh, I’m not talking about the in-flight entertainment but other things.

For starters, the flight had an impressive list of meal sets. What did I like most? No less than our very own Sisig. It is but commendable that Cebu Pacific carry this renown culinary delight. It helps gives Pampanga its rightful claim to being the culinary capital of the Philippines, by offering this signature meal to regional passengers that are not only Filipinos but also from other countries

In place of a full length movie, I’ve had the chance to read at good stretch some features in Smile, the in-flight magazine of this airline that recently received the highest ranking in safety from AirlineRatings.com

I find the cover (and corresponding stories) about Mindanao to be totally laudable, if not unique. It is not everyday that we find outstanding features about the almost-always-forsaken island. More often than not, we find news accounts about the strife-torn and war-hit Mindanao.

Culinary delights and wondrous places in Mindanao make up the spreads devoted by Smile, the in-flight magazine of Cebu Pacific

And so when I got to see the cover about Mindanao, I was enamored to flip the pages through. And voila, I found exciting, really entertaining spreads about Siargao, Zamboanga and Tausug food.

As a design student myself and as I fancy myself as a layout artist, the pages devoted to the articles were not only informative but also artfully done.

Make your flight more meaningful by donating to Change for Good. Now on its 3rd year partnership between UNICEF and Cebu Pacific, this program helps ensure the right health and nutrition in the first 1000 days where a child’s ability to grow, learn in the future begins on a good foundation.

Adding more significance to the flight was the Change for Good initiative. This is in partnership with UNICEF where passengers can get to donate their loose change that will be used in buying food for the world’s indigents, especially those in war-torn countries in Africa. I have long supported this endeavor as I give more than leftover coins and bills from my trips to and from the US via another airline. This is the third year of that initiative by Cebu Pacific.

Cebu Pacific flies to Singapore out of Clark daily, and from Manila up to three times a day.
