Self-styled philanthropist Francis Leo Marcos has fulfilled his promise to send rice donations to the towns of Mexico and Sto. Tomas, both in Pampanga province.
On Monday morning, Marcos personally supervised the distribution of 5 tons of rice to Mexico town, 5 tons to San Simon town and 6.5 tons to the City of Manila. The 16.5 tons of rice (50 kilos each) arrived from Tuguegarao, in Cagayan province, where he sourced the rice.
The trucks left near the residence of Marcos on Monday morning for the towns of Mexico and Sto. Tomas, in Pampanga; and the Manila City Hall.
Last week, both Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang and former San Simon Mayor Digos Canlas have “accepted the challenge” of Marcos to help the poor Filipinos.
“Mr. Francis Marcos, I am Mayor Teddy Tumang, municipal mayor of Mexico, Pampanga, I personally accept your challenge of helping our constituents during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Tumang in a recorded video message posted on social media.
“Just help my town Mexico, Pampanga. For every amount you give I will double it out of my own pocket. I will double whatever you will give just help us. You are welcome here. Mabuhay ka Mr. Francis Marcos we will wait for you here,” said Mayor Tumang.
“Napakapalad ng Mexico mayroon kayong isang magaling na mayor, si Mayor Tumang,” said Marcos, who also fell from the truck after checking the cargo. “Tumulong tayo sa ating lipunan tulungan po natin ang ating gobyerno.”
A certain Madeth Alejandrino from Arayat, Pampanga has also challenged Marcos but it was not known if the latter will send his assistance to the town.
