HERMOSA, Bataan – Econest Waste Management Corporation launched on Monday the “Search for Miss Econest 2018” at the Quezon City Sports Club with guaranteed P300,000 in cash and other prizes at stake for the grand winner.
“Miss Econest is a nationwide search for the most beautiful and intelligent women who will serve as the ambassador for promoting environmental awareness, particularly in the area of proper solid waste management,” says Atty. Beulah Coeli C. Fiel, President of ECONEST.
Atty. Fiel added that this event is being organized and promoted by Econest Waste Management Corporation, the private partner of the Local Government Unit of Hermosa, Bataan for the rehabilitation, operation and expansion of the Hermosa Sanitary Landfill Facility located in Barangay Mambog here.
Three screenings will be held during weekends in September. Provincial screening is scheduled on September 16 at the Subic Bay Freeport while in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be on September 22 at the Quezon City Sports Club.
Major cities like Baguio, Cebu and Davao will also have their own candidates for this Pageant.
Part of its advocacy is to promote awareness on proper solid waste management as an entry point for Sustainable Development. Beyond corporate social responsibility, Econest seeks to achieve the “Triple Bottomline Approach” of catering to the interest of the community, economy and the environment in the conduct of its business.
ECONEST sees the pageant as an effective marketing tool for the Company’s services and its products from extensive recycling and upcycling livelihood programs that contribute to the purchasing power and dignity of its beneficiaries who come mostly from the marginalized sector of society.
With beauty and brains as a platform for promoting its services and core values, Econest believes that the Pageant winner can help entice more people, local government unit and industries to participate in its plans and programs that are in line with the principles of sustainable development.
Part of the proceeds of this event will go to the proposed Ecoguardians Foundation, which will be a non-stock non-profit organization of volunteers from different sectors including, but not limited to: senior citizens, youths, solo parents, persons with disabilities, barangay health workers, farmers, fisherfolk, and the like, who have been effective partners of the local government units implement proper solid waste managemnet practices within their respect territories.
Through this Foundation, Econest also plans to set up a Shelter for Abused Women and Children within the premises of the Hermosa Sanitary Landfill Facility, with skills training on recycling and upcycling waste materials as an entry point for rehabilitation and therapy for victims of domestic abuse, bullying and human trafficking.
Econest’s objective for the Pageant is not only to find beauty and brains among the millions of Filipinas who are eligible for any beauty contest, but someone with a big heart for environmental protection and humanity as a whole. More importantly, with the use of recycled and upcycled materials in every segment of the Pageant, this project is meant to convey the message of the need to temper extreme consumerism which contributes to more and more garbage of unmanageable proportions.
Through this Pageant, Econest seeks to inspire its stakeholders achieve its vision of a consummate sanitary landfill facility, hosting only properly segregated waste and the elements of an Ecological Park, with the Pageant winner as the face for this vision to be fulfilled: to speak to the audience, for and on behalf of humanity, about sustainable development through proper solid waste management.
