
PASAY CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) received a hero’s welcome on Saturday, April 13, following a two-week deployment to Myanmar in response to a devastating earthquake.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel Erwen S. Diploma of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), the 89-member team was composed of personnel from various government agencies and private sector partners. The contingent departed in two batches on April 1 and 2, and returned through Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base in Pasay.

Top defense and government officials welcomed the team in a ceremony that highlighted the country’s commitment to global humanitarian response. Present were Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, Office of Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ariel F. Nepomuceno, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., and PAF Commanding General Lieutenant General Arthur M. Cordura.

In his remarks, Secretary Teodoro relayed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s congratulations and praised the contingent’s bravery and professionalism. Health Secretary Herbosa echoed the sentiment, citing the team’s compassion and dedication in delivering critical medical and emergency services in a time of crisis.
The contingent included members from the PAF, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, MMDA, DENR, DOH, Apex Mining Co., Inc., and Energy Development Corporation.

The mission not only extended the Philippines’ helping hand abroad but also showcased the strength of inter-agency collaboration in times of regional disaster.
“Your service is a testament to our nation’s heart and readiness to stand in solidarity with our neighbors,” Secretary Teodoro said.
