MANILA – While the Holy Week has always been a time of reflection and tradition, it has recently also evolved into one of the major travel moments for many Filipinos.
According to the latest insights from AirAsia MOVE, Filipinos are making the most of this long break to explore, reconnect, and reset, whether flying home, taking bucket-list trips, or enjoying some well-deserved me-time.
Here’s a snapshot of how the country moved this Holy Week:
Peak Travel Window
April 16 emerged as the busiest departure day this year, while April 20 recorded the highest volume of return flights—a classic “Sunday comeback” after the long holiday stretch.
Solo Travel Takes the Spotlight
A surprising 53% of travelers booked solo flights — a clear sign that personal adventures and self-care travel are trending. Filipinos are embracing me-time, even during the country’s most communal holiday season.
Meanwhile, couples and families each made up 17% of travelers, while small groups (9%) and medium groups (3%) rounded out the rest.
Millennials Lead, But Seniors Are In On It, Too
Millennials continue to dominate the travel scene, with 30 to 39-year-olds accounting for 35% of travelers, followed by 20 to 29-year-olds at 27%.
But what’s equally striking is that 13% of travelers are aged 70 to 79. Whether they were tagging along with family or being treated to a much-deserved trip, more seniors are hitting the skies—proving that travel has no age limit, and many are giving back to their elders with experiences that matter.
Big on Comfort
Comfort clearly matters with 45% of travelers booking luxury hotels, while 43% are choosing mid-range accommodations. Only 12% went for budget stays, showing a growing desire for comfort, experience, and perhaps a little indulgence over the break.
Top Destinations among Pinoys
This year, Manila, Cebu, and Iloilo led domestic bookings, while Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo topped international getaways.
Interestingly, Manila also appeared in the international list, hinting at a wave of Filipinos abroad flying home to spend the season with loved ones.
What This Means
This Holy Week revealed just how personal and dynamic travel has become for Filipinos. Whether it’s a soul-searching solo trip, a multi-generational family getaway, or a luxe staycation, one thing is clear: travel is no longer a luxury—it’s a lifestyle.
