Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chair of the Senate Committee on Energy, presides over a public inquiry on the power situation of the Luzon grid on Tuesday morning. Gatchalian urged the Duterte administration to immediately address the country’s unstable power supply, saying that a Luzon-wide power outage could cost the country a loss of about P3.3 billion in economic productivity per hour. He also said that government should look immediately into expanding the country’s power supply by tapping new energy resources. “We need to redouble our efforts to explore and exploit new indigenous energy resources, such as the abundant natural gas reserve in Reed Bank,” Gatchalian said.
