Japanese athletes dominate 2025 Subic Triathlon Cup

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Japanese triathletes ruled the elite division of the 2025 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup Subic Bay, enduring scorching heat on Saturday to sweep top positions in both men’s and women’s races.

Takuto Oshima, a 19-year-old member of Japan’s national team, clinched the men’s title in 1:50:25, edging out Kazakhstan’s Daryn Konysbayev (1:50:52) and fellow Japanese Ryousuke Maeda (1:51:16), who placed second and third, respectively.

Ryoya Tamazaki (1:51:53) and Kenshin Mori (1:52:05) secured fourth and fifth, sealing a strong finish for Team Japan.

In the women’s elite race, Manami Hayashi led the pack with a time of 2:04:58. South Korea’s Park Gayeon and Jeong Hye Rim followed at 2:06:25.

“It was really hot, but I’m happy I won,” said the 20-year-old Nagoya-based Hayashi, who placed second last year and recently bagged silver in the mixed relay at the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships in Hong Kong.

Filipino junior triathletes also made their mark, with Diego Dimayuga, Pio Mishael Latonio, and Miharu Oka topping their respective 13–15 age categories.

Winners in the Super Tri-Kids division included Luke Rozeboom (boys’ 11–12), Naomi Dimayuga (girls’ 11–12), Gabriel Tapuro (boys’ 9–10), Pia Gienne Meiko Gito and Elisha Julian Dela Ailis (girls’ 9–10), Escala (girls’ 7–8), and Ruan Azriel Santos and Francesca Bader Mendoza (6-under).

In the Super Sprint (Legends Men) category, Hiroshi Takei, Noel Salvador, and Miguel Antonio Lopez took the top three spots.

Locally known as SuBIT, the Subic Bay International Triathlon is a key stop in the Asia Triathlon Cup series and a go-to event for athletes seeking ranking points and international exposure.
