Early morning consumers at Mabalacat Public Market received 300 washable eco bags as part of JCI Mabalacat Malasa’s campaign against single-use plastic.
Malasa President Jon Paul Galang highlighted the perks of bringing an eco bag: stylish, easy to wash and environment friendly.
Through the ‘ECO Gagamit Plastic’ (Do Not Use Plastic) project, the community can contribute in minimizing plastic wastes that take centuries to decompose.
According to the City Market Office (CMO) headed by Ryan Mendiola, some 1,700 individuals visit the market daily. Each use at least two to three plastic bags on purchases.
Launched in 2020, this eco bag distribution and information drive is in line with JCI Philippines’ national environmental program ‘Think Green’, and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal projects addressing issues on climate change, carbon footprints, and pollution.
