Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada was arrested on Sunday after violating enhanced community quarantine protocols while distributing food packs to San Juan residents.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said Estrada did not coordinate with the local government before conducting the relief drive.
Zamora said the arrest was not politically motivated.
“I am saddened by the fact that the former senator is not respecting the rule of law,” he said. “Being a former lawmaker himself, he is expected to be the first to abide by the laws of our country,” the mayor added.
Last April 25, the Department of Interior and Local Government has ordered private organizations and individuals who wish to extend help to LGUs to secure a certification before proceeding.
