Ka Bilog posts bail

Former communist leader Rodolfo ‘Ka Bilog’ Salas was released on Wednesday after granted bail, the Supreme Court confirmed.

“The Court resolves to order the provisional release of Rodolfo Salas upon posting of a cash bond of P200,000 in the Regional Trial Court of Manila, unless he is being detained for some other lawful cause,” the notice stated.

Last February, the 72-year old retired head of New People’s Army and Communist Party of the Philippines was arrested for 15 counts of murder.

His lawyer Arno Sanidad of the Free Legal Assistance Group questioned the legality of Salas’ charge, a pending case in 2007 wherein 15 alleged members of CPP were purged.

The arraignment scheduled on March 17 did not push through following SC’s protocol that non-urgent hearings will be suspended from March 16 to April as preventive measures on COVID-19.
